Resumo

Objetivo – O setor de hospitalidade passou por mudanças substanciais nos requisitos profissionais e na necessidade de práticas de engajamento no trabalho. Este estudo investiga as relações entre o trabalho significativo, o engajamento no trabalho, o desempenho profissional e a interdependência de tarefas nesse setor na Índia.

Referencial teórico – O enquadramento teórico baseia-se no modelo de engajamento no trabalho de Kahn (1990) e no modelo de demandas e recursos do trabalho (JD-R) de Bakker e Demerouti (2007).

Metodologia – As hipóteses foram testadas estatisticamente por meio de modelagem de equações estruturais, utilizando-se uma amostra transversal de 301 funcionários do setor de hospitalidade em quatro cidades indianas.

Resultados – Os resultados destacam o papel crucial do trabalho significativo e do engajamento na obtenção de resultados de desempenho sustentáveis. Constatou-se que o engajamento no trabalho atua como um mediador significativo no modelo. No entanto, a interdependência de tarefas não apresentou um efeito moderador estatisticamente significativo. Embora a idade não tenha demonstrado influência significativa no desempenho profissional, a experiência profissional emergiu como um preditor significativo desse desempenho.

Implicações práticas e sociais da pesquisa – O estudo fornece evidências substanciais do papel crítico que o trabalho significativo e o engajamento no trabalho desempenham na promoção do desempenho profissional no setor de hospitalidade. Aumentar a significância e fomentar o engajamento, coletivamente, formam um roteiro prático para se alcançar um desempenho de serviço superior em organizações de hospitalidade.

Originalidade – Como poucas pesquisas foram realizadas com funcionários do setor de hospitalidade, este estudo oferece suporte empírico para modelos de desempenho baseados no engajamento dentro da estrutura JD-R. Ao focar em funcionários do setor de hospitalidade, o estudo amplia a base empírica da pesquisa JD-R para além dos ambientes corporativos tradicionais. Ele demonstra que mecanismos de engajamento orientados pelo significado são igualmente importantes em ambientes de serviços e de alta demanda.
