Abstract

The present article approaches the relationship among models that analyze the phases of organizational life cycle and the organizational effectiveness, based on a retail organization – created in the beginning of the XX Century, more precisely, on November 29, 1913 and that was recognized by the paulistana population as being the one that most resembled the city. The analysis of the favorable periods of growth and the critical periods has made it possible to identify the characteristics of each one of the five identified phases in the study: initial growth, administrative, mass growth, expansion and lack of control.  It is concluded by the importance of underlying concepts that they interfere: in the research when of the phases elaboration; in the theory of organizational life cycle as instrument that can contribute in the strategic planning of  the organizations.
