First, we assess</p><p>the role of sustainable and social values as precursors of social innovation</p><p>orientation, while taking into account interests as to financial returns.</p><p>Second, we examine the role of social innovation orientation as an</p><p>antecedent of a social entrepreneurship attitude. Third, we examine</p><p>how attitude, subjective norms and entrepreneurship self-efficacy</p><p>influence intentions of beginning a social entrepreneurship venture</p><p>among Mexico residents.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Design/methodology/approach </strong>– We conducted 745 surveys among</p><p>low-income Mexico residents who expressed interest in initiating a</p><p>social entrepreneurship venture. We used structural equation modeling</p><p>to test the hypothesized model.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Findings </strong>– Results showed the positive influence of social values on</p><p>social innovation orientation, while taking into account the influence</p><p>of financial interests. Social innovation orientation, an attitude toward</p><p>social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and subjective</p><p>norms were identified as positive predictors of social entrepreneurial</p><p>intentions.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Originality/value </strong>– The paper provides useful information about the</p><p>importance of values to understanding social innovation orientation</p><p>and social entrepreneurship intentions.</p> ER -
